What used to be known as My Local Cafe on W. 10th and Alma has been recently transformed into a sushi restaurant called Sushi Gallery. I gotta tell ya, this is our new favorite sushi joint!
While it’s not exclusively Vegan, Sushi Gallery caters to vegetarians and vegans alike with a host of crazy delicious V friendly options. All the meals come with complimentary edamame and miso soup. Did I mention that they make vegan miso soup?
Normally we’re rather conservative with our spending since we are starving visual art graduates, but Sushi Gallery had a 50% off promotion with Ethical Deals so we decided to try it for the first time and treat ourselves.
So let’s get to the nitty gritty…
They’ve got your standard vegan rolls/nigiri such as kappa maki, oshinko, inari, avocado, yam, asparagus, mushroom, and tofu. But things get real interesting when they use fruits and veg like kiwi, papaya, mango, banana, spinach and beets. They’ve also got a few items like the seaweed salad (photo below) and Korean bibimbop to add to the variety.
The roll below is called the Garden roll. It’s an avocado based roll with assorted vegetables. All eight pieces of this roll have different ingredients for toppings!
The Hawaiian Tropical Fruit roll in the next photo is to die for! Who puts banana, mango, papaya, kiwi, and strawberries all in one bean curd sheet wrapped roll? Well, Sushi Gallery does. Best. Vegan. Sushi. Ever.
Ambience : 3.5/5
Overall: 4 zombie face out of 5 because Sushi Gallery makes us go “mmm…SUSHI”…(as opposed to “BRAINS”).
